A Love Hate Relationship
Elliptical. Elliptical. Elliptical. I hate it, I love it. What is that about? Is there anyone that actually loves the elliptical? I started out on the elliptical about 2 weeks ago, I did it for 2 minutes and thought I was going to die, I watched people on it, for what seemed like hours. How was I ever going to do it for more then 2 minutes?? I talked to my trainer (Ryan) and gave him my pity story…how I hate it, how I could never do it more then 2 minutes, yada yada yada. He told me to get my butt back on and just keep trying. After my training with him I went over and got on the elliptical and was ready to give up when Ryan walked behind me, and made me keep going. I did 2 ½ minutes and he told me to keep going, I was dying there was no way…I wanted to cry! But because he was standing there I did it (barely) he told me not to look at the time, just keep going.. The third day I put a towel over the time and when I thought I was going to die, I looked at my time I did it for 10 minutes! How did I go from 3 min to 10 min?? The next day got even better, I did 15 minutes, then 20 minutes, and so on. I did a 30 minute session and rested for 5 minutes and did 45 minutes after only a week. I am amazed how fast the body adjusts to hard consistent work. I did the elliptical for an hour last night and had the resistance at 6 (up from 1, 2 weeks earlier). I know that with out the encouragement of Ryan, Marti (my sister), Monica, and of course my own continued will to get healthy none of this would be possible! The point is if you are starting something new, or trying to get back into working out, consistency, support and hard work is all you need. Give yourself credit, do what you can, even if it is 2 minutes on the elliptical, do it! Before you know it you will be a gym rat like me!!
